Child Ayat strangled to death , accused arrested instantly

A seven-year-old girl, Alina Islam Ayat, who went missing from the EPZ area of Chattogram city, has been strangled to death. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said this information.

According to the PBI, the information was revealed in the interrogation of a former tenant of Ayat‍‍`s house named Abir Ali. He was arrested from Akmal Ali Road under EPZ police station around 11pm on Thursday.

PBI Chattogram Metro Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana said that the child was abducted with the intention of collecting ransom. Later, after being strangled to death, the body was thrown into six pieces in the Karnaphuli River.

Ayat went missing on November 15 while she was going to study Arabic in a nearby mosque from her home in Bandartila Nayahat power office area of EPZ police station. His father Sohel Rana filed a missing diary with EPZ police station.

PBI Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana said a youth named Abir Ali was arrested after reviewing the CCTV footage of the surrounding area after the disappearance of the child Ayat. During the initial interrogation, Abir said that he had abducted the child Ayat with the intention of demanding ransom. However, when the child was screaming, Abir strangled him to death. Later, Akmal Ali took the body to his house on the road and cut it into six pieces. Later, the mutilated parts of the body were stuffed in two bags and dumped in the river in Beribandh area.

He said that the bowl and anticutter used in the murder of the child Ayat have been recovered. Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge of EPZ Police Station, said on Friday afternoon that a general diary was filed on behalf of his family regarding the disappearance of the child Ayat. Ayat was abducted and killed by a man. A case is under process in this regard. The accused is in the custody of PBI.
