A joint operation against the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), a separatist group, began in Bandarban on Saturday night following the directive of the Prime Minister over the looting of banks, arms, attacks on mosques and abductions. Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said two firearms and some terrorists were detained during the operation. He reached Bandarban by helicopter yesterday morning and exchanged views with the army officials at Bandarban 69 Army Region on the overall situation.

He said this at a press briefing at 12:30 pm. Although he did not say exactly how many people were detained for security reasons, he said that the combined operation against the KNF armed organization started from last night on the strict instructions of the Prime Minister. Two weapons have already been recovered. The operation of the joint forces will continue until the situation becomes normal.

The Army Chief also said talks were underway with the peace committee for the KNF to return to normal life. Two face-to-face dialogue meetings were also held, before the third meeting, they committed terrorist acts. On March 31, the army sent cakes to all churches, including Betelpara in Ruma, to organize the Sunday of the Baums, and were involved in organizing the festival. But on April 2, they committed terrorist acts, it is difficult to know what is inside the mind. But the government trusted them, the KNF did not. He also said that combined operations and intelligence activities are also going on. Not all of the operations are visible. Some activities will continue invisible, which the common people will not see, but will enjoy the benefits. Senior officials of Bangladesh Army were present at that time.

Meanwhile, the situation in Ruma and Thanchi is still tense due to the KNF attack. The people of the two upazilas did not panic. The number of cases in these cases increased to eight. Of these, four are in Ruma and four in Thanchi. The defendants in all the cases are unknown. It was known that the panic is not over yet in Ruma Upazila, where internal traffic was closed even yesterday. Shops have also been closed in various markets.

Confirming the matter, Bandarban Superintendent of Police Saikat Shahin said Sonali Bank officials, Imam of the mosque, police and Ansar filed the case in Ruma incident, officials of Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank in Thanchi and two police plaintiffs. However, no arrests have been made in the case so far. However, no fresh KNF firing was reported in Ruma and Thanchi. The operation of the joint forces is going on to catch the attackers. The drive is being conducted in Ruma-Rowangchhari, Thanchi-Alikadam border areas.

Besides, all transactions of Sonali-Krishi Bank in Ruma-Thanchi and Rowangchhari have been suspended for security reasons since the bank robbery. Sonali Bank Managing Director Md Afzal Karim said customers of these three upazilas will be able to transact at the Bandarban Sadar branch.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said that action has been taken against the hill terrorist group KNF. Together we have started a planned action against the Kuki-Chin attacks. Action has already been taken against them. There are reports of some activities against them. There will be better news tomorrow. We want to assure everyone that we are all working together against Kuki-Chin. Now there is no situation to panic. I want to assure everyone that the Prime Minister has adopted zero tolerance policy against terrorism. Due to the zero tolerance policy, the way we have controlled militancy, terrorism, all including the armed forces are working together against terrorism in the hills. The law and order situation in the hills is under control. Strict action will be taken against those who are involved in organizing crimes in the hills.
