Even a decade ago, shimul flowers used to adorn the trees in different parts of the countryside. Many people used cotton from Shimul trees to make covers, mattresses, and pillows. Many have become self-reliant by selling Shimul's cotton.
However, due to the touch of modernity, the Shimul tree is no longer visible. Shimul trees have disappeared from this region due to the indiscriminate killing of Shimul trees and the non-planting of saplings.
Government surveillance needs to be increased in this regard and environmentalist organizations along with the agriculture department should come forward for conservation.
