13,500 families of 70 villages in two upazilas have become water-bound again in Feni. Fulgazi and Parshuram upazila administration sources said this at around 11 am yesterday.

According to the sources, at the beginning of this month, the embankment of the Mahuri River in Parshuram upazila of the district was breached at 12 places due to flooding. About 40 villages in the local municipality and three unions have been flooded again due to heavy rains in the last few days and the onrush of water from upstream through the erosion sites.

Confirming the information, Parshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afroza Habib Shapla said the water of Muhuri River was flowing 55cm above the danger level. Besides, the upazila administration has 500 packets of dry food and 50 tons of rice to deal with the flood situation.

On the other hand, at least 30 villages in Sadar Union, Munshirhat and Amjadhat unions of Fulgazi upazila have been flooded as the water level of Muhuri, Silonia and Kahua rivers has risen.

Fulgazi UNO Tania Bhuiyan said according to information received from the Water Development Board, the water of the river is flowing 55cm above the danger level. Although there is no new crack in the embankment of the Muhuri and Silonia rivers, the water has flooded vast areas through the previous cracks and overflowing the dam. At present, the communication of the upazila with the district headquarters has been cut off due to flooding of Fulgazi and Parshuram parts of Feni-Belonia regional highway.
