77-yr-old rickshaw puller Mohar Ali seeks support

Mohar Ali is about 80 years old. His house is in Gabtali area of Baulai union of Sadar upazila. At this age, when people reach old age and spend their days at home, Mohar Ali has to run a rickshaw every day to maintain his family.

Mohar Ali has a family of three with a son and an old wife. He hires a rickshaw from a moneylender for Tk 200 every day. From morning to night, he earns 400/500. Of this, the rickshaw owner has to pay Tk 200. He runs the family with the remaining 200/300.

Mohar Ali cannot move properly due to age. Even then, the rickshaw has to run to meet the expenses of the family. He has to run a rickshaw to provide food for himself, his child and his elderly wife.

Mohar Ali has been driving a rickshaw for nearly 50 years to earn a living. Even in this old age, I have to earn a living by renting rickshaws of others.

Mohar Ali said, "I have a son. He drives a autorickshaw. As he even doesn't maintain his own family, how can he support us? So I have to drive my own rickshaw to feed myself and my old wife."

Rickshaw puller Mohar Ali appealed to the government and said, "If the government provides me with any help, then I will sit in a business. It trouble to drive a rickshaw. It would be nice to have a small business."

In this regard, Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abu Rasel said, "We arrange old age allowance for those who are above 65 years of age. And there is no separate plan for those who are getting old age allowance. However, if there is any allocation from the government, they will be assisted from there."
