Broiler prices out of reach

The price of broiler chicken has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg in Kendua of Netrakona. At the end of last month, the price of broiler chicken was Tk 190 to Tk 200 per kg. This has made the price of broiler chicken beyond the reach of people from low-income to middle class. This picture of broiler chicken prices was seen by talking to the buyers and sellers of various raw markets in Kendua on Wednesday. If you look at the statistics, you can see a direr picture of the increase in the price of broiler chicken. According to the market rate, last month broiler chicken was sold at Tk 150-160 per kg. After just one month, this price is now Tk 220-230.

Retailers say wholesale traders and farm owners are increasing the price of chicken due to an increase in food prices and supply costs. Kendua market broiler chicken trader Jamal Talukdar said, last few days ago I sold broiler chickens at Tk 190-200 per kg. But all the chickens that I bought from the wholesale market last night have to be sold at Tk 230 this morning. Sales are down. Another chicken seller in the Kendua market said that the price of chicken has been increasing by Tk5-10 for the last few weeks. Wholesale traders say that the price of food has increased or the farm owners have increased the price. On the other hand, the cost of supply has also increased.

The middle class as well as the low-income people are very angry and frustrated with this increase in the price of broiler chicken. Sohail Ahmed, who came to buy broiler chicken, says that due to the price, beef or chicken meat was out of reach for a long time. Now the price of broiler chicken is out of reach. In this situation, it has become difficult to eat meat at least one day a week, he said.
