An elderly man was killed and two others injured in a road accident in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur district on yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Shamsul Haque, 70, hailed from Horirampur union under Parbatipur upazila. Locals said that the accident took place when a pick-up van hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Barkona intersection area on the Dinajpur-Phulbari regional highway at around 9am yesterday.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station, said that an accident occurred when a pick-up van carrying medicines from Birampur collided with auto-rickshaw, leaving the passenger of the van dead. "We have seized the pick-up van but the driver and helper of the vehicle fled the spot", the official said.The body of deceased will be handed over to his family after autopsy, he added.
