Fishermen get success in Rohu farming

Farooq Mandal, a fisherman from Rajarhat in Kurigram bought G-3 Rohu fish larvae for just Tk5 thousand. Farooq Mondal is now successful in selling it. Last September, he collected 500 grams of high-quality roe fish Renu from Rangpur for Tk5 thousand. After 6 months Rohu fish larvae is selling at Tk350. This Rohu grows rapidly in ponds up to 6/7 kg weight. As a result, the fishermen have seen the face of profit by cultivating this fish. On investigation, it is known that till now fish farmer Umar Farooq Mandal was cultivating fish in the pond in the traditional way. His house is in Nafadanga village of Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram. He found the superior G-3 Rohu fish larvae in Rangpur. Rohu fish larvae bought 500 grams of roe fish for Tk5000 last September. 2.5 to 3 Rohu fish larvae are available from there.

He will be able to sell 800 kg of Rohu fish larvae. Besides, if he can keep the fry in the pond for one year, he will be able to make more profit. As a result, seeing the growth of Rohu fish larvae in his pond, many fishermen are buying Rohu fish larvae. Fisherman Farooq Mondal said, this fish grows fast and is profitable. Tk50 to 60 thousand has been spent on food and care for the production of 500 grams of Rohu fish larvae. If I sell this fish, I will get a profit of Tk3 to Tk3.5 lakh.

Vidyut Kumar Saha, team leader of the integrated agriculture unit of Rangpur RDRS, said that the growth of this fish is 30 times higher than that of ordinary rohu fish. This fishery has created a lot of interest among fishermen. We are providing this Rohu fish larvae for free. So that fish needs and nutritional needs are met in Kurigram. Farmers benefit more.
