Five brokers held from govt hospital

Five brokers, including three women, have been arrested from Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital (Sadar Hospital). Sadar Thana Police arrested them from Manikganj Sadar Hospital gate yesterday around noon. The arrested were - Pappu (35) of Panjankhara village of Garpara Union of Manikganj Sadar Upazila, Farooq (38) of West Seota area, Beauty Begum (50) of Saturia Police Station, Selina Begum (42) of Ghior Upazila and Shila Akter (25) of Sadar Upazila.

According to the police and hospital authorities, the arrested brokers have been sending patients to their hospitals for a long time saying that there is no doctor in Manikganj 250-bed general hospital and that there are various problems in the hospital.  General patients were sent to different private hospitals and money was taken from the patients in the name of treatment. When the security staff of the Sadar Hospital stopped them from doing such misdeeds, the brokers used to abuse and threaten them in unspeakable language.

It is to be noted that on April 22 around 12 noon, the broker gang chased the security staff of the hospital with domestic weapons. Then on April 24, the security staff of Sadar Hospital, Dulal Hossain filed a case at Manikganj Sadar Police Station mentioning the names of 15 brokers and naming 4/5 others as defendants. Officer-in-charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station Md. Habil Hossain said that five brokers, including three women, were arrested and sent to court after raiding Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Efforts are underway to arrest other broker members.
