Load shedding disrupts public life

Bhola's 34.5 MW rental power plants have been closed for three months due to a severe mechanical failure. As a result, 20 lakh people in the district are in extreme sufferings with power outages for three long months.

Although West Zone Power for Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) is trying hard to keep the power system active in alternative ways through the national grid, frequent load shedding is happened due to getting less electricity than the demand.

The WZPDCL has kept the power system active through frequent load shedding based on upazila and area as the supply is less than the demand. But due to mechanical failure, the 34.5 MW power plants remained out of order for three months. Customers are suffering a lot as they are unable to supply against the demand. Public life is disrupted in such a situation of electricity during the day and night. However, the owners of small and medium factories are facing the most problems.

According to the Power Division, the 34.5 MW rental power plant machine has been shut down for three months due to a technical fault. However, the rental authorities said that their all-out efforts to resolve the issue are continuing.

WZPDCL Executive Engineer Md Yasin Kausar said that due to lack of supply against the demand, they are forced to do load shedding. The demand of 80,000 customers in Bhola Sadar, Borhanuddin and Charfasson upazilas is 30 megawatts, but we are getting 22 megawatts from the national grid. That is why we are forced to do load shedding. If grid substation can be done in this district, then there will be no such problem.

Md Hafizur Rahman, manager of the 34.5 MW power plants, said the machine had problems due to mechanical faults. Hopefully this problem will be completely solved in the next six months. However, if there was a sub-station of the national grid in the district, the people of the region would not have to live in such a power outage.
