Seven get life term

 

A Gazipur court on yesterday sentenced seven people to life-term rigorous imprisonment for killing a schoolboy after abducting him in 2013. Md Bahauddin Qazi, the judge of 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court in Gazipur, delivered the verdict yesterday afternoon. The court also fined the convict Tk 10 lakh, in default, they will have to suffer six more months in jail. The convicted were Selim, 22, Abdullah Al Mamun, 19, Shah Alam, 29, Md Ripon Mia, 30, Md Milon Khandakar, 24, Md Tanjil, 24, Shafiqul Islam, 22. Among them, Shah Alam, Milon, and Shafiqul went into hiding after granting bail earlier.

According to the case statement, the victim Md Sohel, an eighth grader of Bhabanipur High School, went out of his house to have a cup of tea around 8 pm on December 8 2013 but didn't return home till the next day. On December 9, an anonymous person called the victim's father and demanded Tk 1lakh as ransom. But the father failed to pay the money. Later on December 10, police recovered the body of the schoolboy from a jungle in the area.

The victim's father Fazlul Haque filed a murder case with the concerned police station accusing some persons involved in the killing. Subsequently, the investigation officer of the case SI Mohammad Hasan pressed the charge sheet against seven persons on January 18, 2015. Eventually, the court rewarded the accused with life term imprisonment after hearing witnesses and examining evidence, said assistant public prosecutor Mahbub Alam Mamun
