Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is one of the largest political parties in the country. Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain has been nominated as a member of the National Standing Committee, the highest policy-making body of the political party. This doctor and BNP leader is the son of Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur.
Previously, he served as the vice chairman of BNP. Besides, he was personal doctor of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. After completing MBBS, he obtained FCPS (Surgery), MS (Urology), FCPS (Urology), and FRCP (Edin) degrees.
In a press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Friday afternoon, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party's senior joint secretary general, confirmed the nomination of Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram and doctor A Z M Zahid Hossain as members of the National Standing Committee of BNP. Hafiz Uddin and Zahid Hossain are now 16 members of the party's standing committee.
The news of AZM Zahid Hossain being nominated as a member of the party's standing committee spread joy among the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations in Dinajpur district. District and upazila level leaders and activists can be seen congratulating him on the social media Facebook.
Newly appointed member of the standing committee, A Z M Zahid Hossain joined the politics of Nationalist Chatra Dal while studying in Mymensingh Medical College. Later, he served as the Secretary General of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and Combined Professional Council.
He was a candidate for BNP nomination from Dinajpur-6 (Ghoraghat, Hakimpur, Nawabganj and Birampur) constituencies in the last parliamentary elections. Most of the leaders and activists of 4 upazilas wished to see him as the nominated candidate of the party from this constituency in the upcoming elections to be held under the interim government.
A Z M Zahid Hossain, the newly appointed member of the Standing Committee, said, "I am eternally grateful for having faith in me and appointing me as a member of the Standing Committee of the party." Please pray that I can protect the dignity of the trust of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and vice chairman Tariq Rahman. Like before, I want to continue working with the party leaders and workers in the coming days as well.
