In the first part, we wrote about the tax evade, salary anomaly, and land grabbing anomalies by the Dhaka Cotton Mill at Bhaluka, Mymensingh.
In our first part of the news, we said about 30 former staff have due amounts of Tk 79 lakh but here is the corrected data, Tk 1,62,50,889 is due against 37 staff.
Tafrid Cotton, the sister concern of Dhaka Cotton made a Letter of Credit (LC) on May 29, 2023, there they imported 551150 lbs of cotton from Hong Kong at the rate of $1.1569 whereas the domestic highest market price was $0.86 at that time.
The former head of the IT of Dhaka Cotton, Ahasan Kabir, was seriously injured on duty, and turned to disable physically. When he demanded his due salaries and the cost of treatment, the MD of Dhaka Cotton threatened him with death.
Sheikh Samiul Islam also slapped a woman staff in the daylight when she demanded her due salary.
The enforcement unit of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has raided the Dhaka Cotton Mill at Postgola of the capital on October 3, 2019 on the charges of selling machines and renting residential buildings of this government mill, which has been closed for a long time. Taking advantage of the long shutdown, some members of the board of directors are selling the old machinery of the mill. Apart from this, they are also earning by renting the flats in the mill quarters.
In Bhaluka, Mymensingh, fish farmers have reported loss of fish worth around Tk 9 lakh due to waste from Tafrid Cotton Mill, a sister concern of Dhaka Cotton Mill. In this regard, Kamal Hossain, son of late Monir Uddin Sheikh in Bagh Satra area filed a complaint at Valuka Model Police Station on May 10, 2017.
Sheikh Samiul has appointed a businessman who is bankrupt of Tk 575 cr and associate of former agriculture minister Abdur Razzak to minimize the problem of deprived staff. He also called two/ three of the deprived staff to pay the due amounts but most of the staff has not gotten any response yet.
We tried to contact Sk Md Samiul Islam over his phone 01711****93, but the number was switched off. We sent a message on his WhatsApp number, but he still has not seen our message. So we found another number, 01713****31, he picked up our call and ensured that he would answer soon but he did not call yet.
