The court has sent Pabna District Chhatra League (BSL) President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj (25) to jail in a case filed for violating the code of conduct in the last national parliament election.

He surrendered in the Pabna Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at around 2.30 pm last Wednesday and applied for bail. Court judge Md Kamal Hossain ordered to send him to prison without granting bail after the hearing. Advocate Abdul Ahad Babu confirmed this information for the accused.

Earlier, Mizanur Rahman Sabuj applied for bail in the High Court on June 11. But at the end of the hearing, the high court ordered to surrender to the lower court in Pabna within the next 6 weeks without giving bail. Advocate Abdul Ahad Babu, Dewan Majnul Haque and Belayt Ali Billu were lawyers for the accused in the case. And APP advocate Makibul Alam Lablu was for the state.

According to the statement of the case, the District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj gave a provocative and threatening speech in a road meeting at Chatmohar in Pabna on December 2, 2023 around the national parliament elections. On that day, he said, 'No one can vote in Pabna-3 constituency except Maqbool Chacha. I declared war against those who stood against the boat.

District Chhatra League president Mizanur Rahman Sabuj was issued a show cause notice on December 4 for violating the election code of conduct by the member of the election inquiry committee in charge of Pabna-3 constituency, joint district and session judge Tajul Islam.

After that, Sabuj apologized unconditionally for violating the code of conduct by appearing in person on December 5 to respond to the show-cause notice and giving a written explanation.

The judge in charge of the Election Inquiry Committee informed the Election Commission in writing. Later, on January 1, 2024, the Election Commission decided to file a case against District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj. On that day, in a letter signed by Deputy Secretary (Law) Md Abdus Salam of the Election Commission, Chatmohar Upazila Election Officer was ordered to file a case against Sabuj. After that, Chatmohar Upazila Election Officer Sajjad Hossain filed a case against Sabuj on January 2, 2024 at Chatmohar police station.

Advocate Dewan Majnul Haque, lawyer for the defendant, said that it is a case of violation of election code of conduct. After surrendering, he applied for bail but the court did not grant it. We will try to bail him again in the future.
