Farmers happy with Mukhi Kochu price

Farmers are happy with expected price of Mukhi Kochu at Chowgacha in Jashore. Chowgacha Bazaar is the biggest and wholesale market of Mukhi Kochu in the upazila.

It was known that farmers sell Mukhi Kochu worth Tk lakhs in this market from morning till noon. Farmers bring their produce directly to this market. Kochu sells at wholesale prices. Wholesale traders from various districts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, Rajbari, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, and Magura, buy Kochu by the truckload. The fresh Kochu here meets the local demand and goes to different parts of the country including Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet.

The concerned said that farmers from different villages of Narayanpur, Swarupdaha, Sukhpukuria, Hakimpur, Jagadishpur and Patibila Union of the upazila brought hundreds of sacks in vans, nasimons, easy bikes to the wholesale market of Mukhi Kochu. Farmers sit in the wholesale market with their cultivated Kochu. Big wholesale buyers see those Kochu and buy them if they like. Later, they loaded their sacks in trucks and went to different cities including the capital Dhaka.

After visiting the Chowgacha wholesale market yesterday, it was found that the entire market was full of Kochu. Shahidul Islam, a farmer of the municipal area, said that farmers from nearby upazila Jhikargacha, Kotchandpur, Kaliganj and Maheshpur come to this market to sell kachu. This market houses big wholesalers from outside and has a lot of demand. As a result, we got our money along with the sale of Kochu.

Some farmers said that they have been coming here for the last 10 years to sell vegetables and Kochu. There is no extra hassle in this market. They never have to sell them and take them back to the Kochu house. Farmers get good prices when they come to this market. Good quality Kochu is offering wholesale price at Tk 53-60 per kg. But sometimes the price of Kochu is more or less.

Upazila Swarupdaha Union Chairman Nurul Kadar said that upazila's wholesale vegetable and Mukhi Kochu market is changing the fortunes of farmers. This is the big wholesale vegetable market of this upazila. As a result, farmers are directly

Mukhi Kochu can be sold in this wholesale market. Farmers are happy at the price of Mukhi Kochu. Kochu cultivation is expected to increase on a large scale in the future due to marketability.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mosabbir Hussain said, Mukhi Kochu is a profitable crop. A total of 325 hectares of land is being cultivated across the upazila. Farmers are happy with the good prices. Moreover, Mukhi Kochu cultivation will increase in this upazila in the future.
