Four of the five arrested with knives are from Chhatra League

A case has been filed against one person after five people were first detained with knives during the prime minister‍‍`s birthday celebrations. Four of those arrested have been released. The four released are said to be BCL leaders and activists.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Mohammad confirmed the matter on Wednesday night.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh was speaking at a discussion meeting of Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parishad at the Supreme Court auditorium on Wednesday (September 28) on the occasion of prime minister Sheikh Hasina‍‍`s birthday.

At that time, a man was trying to get out of the back of the mayor with a bag. When the organizers of the event suspected him, they searched him and found a white cloth and two knives in the bag.
Later, when four more people, including two women, came forward to take him away, the lawyers arrested the five and handed them over to Shahbagh Police Station.

Later, it was learned that one of the detainees was Asif Iqbal alias Ripon, president of Dhaka Law District Unit Chhatra League. The Dhaka Law District Unit of Chhatra League is made up of all the law colleges of the Dhaka district.

The other four arrested are said to be his employees. However, on Wednesday (September 28th) night, four people, including Asif Iqbal, were released by the police.

According to a BCL source, Asif Iqbal is a friend of a top BCL leader. Therefore, after contacting from the responsible level of the organization, except the person who wanted to go behind Mayor Taposh with a bag, four others were released from the police station. However, chhatra league is embarrassed by the name of a leader of the organization in such an incident in the country‍‍`s highest court.
