Historic May Day observed across Bangladesh

The historic May Day was observed on Wednesday in the country and elsewhere worldwide in a befitting manner. The day has been observed across the globe since 1886 commemorating the supreme sacrifices of the workers at Haymarket, Chicago, in the USA for establishing an eight-hour working day and upholding the rights of the working people. To press home their demands, working people had to sacrifice their valuable lives in tragic bomb attacks and police atrocities on May 1, 1886, and the following days.This year's theme of the day is 'Sramik-Malik Gorbo Desh, Smart Hobey Bangladesh (Labour-owner will build the country, Bangladesh will be smart)'.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of May Day. Various organizations arranged different programs to mark the day. May Day was observed in different districts. News from our district Correspondent.

Khagrachari:

Historic May Day and International Labor Day were celebrated in Khagrachari. On Wednesday morning, a rally was organized by the Khagrachari district administration from Khagrachari Municipal Town Hall with colorful arrangements. The rally goes around the main road of Khagrachari city and ends at the town hall. Later Khagrachari District Commissioner Md. Sahiduzzaman presided over the discussion meeting. Khagrachari District Superintendent of Police Mukta Dhar PPM (Bar), Krishna Chandra Chakma, Shane Alam, Junaid Kabir Sohag, Rumana Akhtar, Naima Islam,Tafiqul Alam, Ataur Rahman Rana, Jiten Barua, Janu Sikder, Mehedi Hasan Helal, and others spoke.

Habiganj:

On the occasion of Historic May Day, a rally was organized by Habiganj district administration workers. Habiganj District Commissioner Most Jilufa Sultanapresided over the rally. On this occasion, Habiganj Sadar-3 MP, Advocate Abu Zahir was present as the chief guest. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.The Chief Guest said in his speech that care should be taken to ensure that no injustice is done to the workers. Pay attention to the proper remuneration of the workers. Chairman of Zilla Parishad Aleya Akhtar, Superintendent of Police Akhtar Hossain, along with district administration, labor leaders, and journalists of various media - Print media were present as guests at the event.

 

Cox's Bazar:

Cox's Bazar district administration and various labor organizations celebrated May Day in a colorful manner.

On the occasion of the day on Wednesday morning, a rally was taken out from the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner. Later discussion meeting in the CSP conference room was held. Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran presided over the discussion meeting. Deputy Director of District Administration Local Government SM Ferdous Islam, Additional District Commissioner (General) Bivishan Kanti Das, Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, and others were present in the discussion meeting. Before this, various labor organizations held colorful rallies on various roads and highways of Cox's Bazar district city.

Nilphamari:

Historical May Day was celebrated in Nilphamari through various programs. On the occasion of the day on Wednesday, various government and private labor organizations started the program by hoisting the national flag in the morning.Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Ghosh, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Mohammad Saiful Islam, Agriculturist Dewan Kamal Ahmed, Zainal Abedin, and others spoke in it. Earlier, a colorful rally circumambulated the main road of the city. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mehedi Hasan, Upazila Chairman Shahid Mahmud, and various labor organizations participated in the rally. Also, various labor organizations are holding various programs on the occasion of the day.

Kurigram:

Historic May Day 2024 has been celebrated in Kurigram. On Wednesday morning, a discussion meeting was organized by the district administration at the Victory Pillar of Independence near College Square. A colorful rally took place at the end of the discussion meeting.

Kurigram District Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif, Superintendent of Police Al Asad Md. Mahfuzul Islam, Municipal Mayor Md. Qaziul Islam, valiant freedom fighters SM Harunur Rashid Lal and others from the district were present in the discussion meeting and colorful rally.

Pabna:

Like other places in the country, Historic May Day has been celebrated in Pabna Chatmohar too. Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Foundation Chatmohar Upazila branch organized a rally and discussion meeting on Wednesday at 9 am. In the morning, a rally took off from the bus stand area and circled the main thoroughfare of the city. Hundreds of labor union workers participated. Later, the meeting was held under the chairmanship of Khandokar Abdus Chatter, president of Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Foundation Chatmohar upazila branch. Mujibur Rahman, Shahidullah Master, Shukur Ali, Haji Muhammad Murad Hossain, and Miraj Hossain, etc. spoke in the short meeting. Upazila Fishermen Trade Union President Delwar Hossain modaration over the event.

Tangail:

Tangail District Awami League celebrated the Historic May Day in Tangail with a counter program.On this occasion, on Wednesday at around 11 o'clock in the old bus stand area of the city, a party organized a labor rally at the initiative of the district labor federation. Former Agriculture Minister and Awami League presidium member Dr. Abdur Razzak was the chief guest. Another rally was held under the banner of the District Workers' Rally. Awami League general secretary Joaherul Islam was present as the chief guest at the rally.  Sanwar Hossain MP, former Member of Parliament Ataur Rahman, and others spoke at this time. Other leaders and activists of the district Awami League were also present at the event.

 

 

ZH
