Schoolgirl stabbed to injuries

A school girl was hacked with a sharp weapon after she refused to agree to a marriage proposal in Katiyadi of Kishoganj. The incident took place in Charia village of Chandpur Union of Upazila yesterday. The accused Monir (20) was arrested by Katiyadi Model Police Station. The police arrested him yesterday afternoon from the Boalia area of the upazila. Accused Monir was the son of Nidu Mia of Kurikhai village of Mumurdia Union of Upazila.

The injured schoolgirl was a class 10 student of Boalia Tahera Noor School and College of the same upazila. Accused Monir and the schoolgirl are distant relatives. According to the police and local sources, Monir used to visit the house of the schoolgirl's father because of his relationship. Monir intended to marry a schoolgirl. But the schoolgirl did not like Monir. When Monir proposes marriage to her, the schoolgirl refuses. Enraged by this, he started looking for revenge. Meanwhile, Monir often used to harass the students on the way to and from school.

Yesterday night, Monir took a chance and hid in the school girl's room with a sharp weapon.  At this time Monir ran away with his screams. The family members rescued the schoolgirl and took her to a local private hospital. The schoolgirl's mother said, "When Monir proposed marriage to my daughter, she refused. He has been harassing the girl for a long time. At some point on Tuesday night, he entered Moni's house and stabbed her with a sharp weapon while she was sleeping. I demand exemplary punishment for this incident.

Indrajit Saha, principal (acting) of Boalia Tahera Noor School and College said, 'The injured girl is good in studies. He comes to school regularly. He is interested in education. I demand strong condemnation of this incident and exemplary punishment of the culprit.

Officer-in-charge of Katiyadi Model Police Station OC Mohammad Dawood confirmed that the schoolgirl was injured. He said, "The accused Monir has been arrested in this incident. Further legal action is being taken."
