Seminar held in Burichong

 

A seminar on the role of the RAISE project in the reintegration of repatriated migrant workers was organized by Welfare Center Cumilla. This seminar was held yesterday at 11 am in the conference room of the Burichong Upazila District Officer. Arif Ahmed Khan, (Joint Secretary) and Director (Administration and Development) Wage Earners' Welfare Board (WEWB), Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, Dhaka was the chief guest.  Secondary Education Officer Abdul Mannan presided over it. Ali Hossain, assistant director of Welfare Center Cumilla, gave a welcome speech at the seminar. Upazila Youth Development Officer Sahedul Alam Chowdhury, Abdul Awal, Habibur Rahman, Abdul Momen, Gazi Jahangir Alam Jabir, Zafar Ullah, Zahir Ahmed, Mamun Mia, Jalal Hossain Khan, Jahangir Alam and expatriates spoke. In the speech of the chief guest in the seminar, Arif Ahmed Khan (Joint Secretary) said that 5 lakh workers who have lost their jobs and returned to the country from different countries of the world, some of them with their families are living in the society with various difficulties.

Wage Earners Welfare Board, PMU, and Welfare Center under the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment are working together to provide all the facilities of the project to their doorstep including providing technical assistance in referral and RPL activities to create employment opportunities for these returned workers. He also said in the seminar, The government has taken various steps including rehabilitation of returning migrants and informal sector employment (recovery), providing scholarships to children of migrants, and financial assistance. He called upon all those present to inform the mentioned matters at all levels.
