Eden Gardens’ dressing room catches fire amid renovation work

Two of Bangladesh's games in the 2018 ICC World Cup will be played in Kolkata's Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium starting on October 5. On October 5, a large fire broke out in one of the dressing rooms.
The incident occurred at the stroke of midnight on Wednesday as the ground staff noticed smoke coming out of the away team's dressing room, outside which renovation work was taking place, as per local media reports in India. Afterwards, relevant authorities managed to extinguish the fire in time.

Last week the iconic stadium, one of the 10 venues for the 13th edition of the World Cup, was inspected by the ICC and BCCI delegations.

The Eden Gardens, the stage for the marquee event's second semi-final, will see its introduction in the tournament on October 28 when Bangladesh take on Netherlands. Three days later, the Tigers are set to clash with Pakistan at the venue, which will also stage India-South Africa and England-Pakistan matches on November 5 and November 11, respectively.
