Enayet Karim appointed as Asian President of World Indigenous Games Council

Eminent economist and editor Dr. Enayet Karim has been appointed as the Regional President (Asia) of the World Council of Indigenous Games. This was officially announced by WIG Secretary General Dr. Mrs. Ramya on Sunday.

Dr. Enayet Karim, who is currently serving as the President of the Global Economist Forum and Editor of The Daily Industry, will hold this prestigious position for a period of three years from April 20, 2024, to March 2027. He is the President of the Bangladesh Newspaper Industry Council, the national body representing the country’s newspaper industry.

Dr. Karim expressed gratitude to the World Council of Indigenous Games authorities for entrusting him with this important responsibility. He pledged to promote indigenous sports across Asia with renewed enthusiasm and strategic initiatives.

I feel extremely honoured to be appointed as the Regional President of the World Council of Indigenous Games. “I will do my best to revive and promote indigenous sports across the region by organizing regional events and forming country-level committees,” he said.

Expressing his vision for Bangladesh, Dr. Karim also said that he plans to work closely with both government and private organizations to create awareness and increase participation in traditional sports. We must preserve our cultural heritage, and indigenous sports are an integral part of that heritage,” he noted.

As the regional president, Dr. Karim will play a key role in expanding the activities of the World Council of Indigenous Games across Asia, focusing on incorporating traditional sports in education and recreation, increasing cultural exchange, and bringing different communities together through heritage-based sports.

The World Council of Indigenous Games, an international organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of indigenous sports and cultural expressions, works to connect indigenous communities around the world through events, tournaments, and advocacy.

Dr. Enayet Karim’s appointment is expected to further revitalize the indigenous sports movement in Asia, especially in Bangladesh, where traditional sports are deeply rooted in rural culture but are often neglected in the face of modern entertainment.

Stakeholders from various fields, including sports, culture, and education, have already congratulated Dr. Karim and expressed hope that his leadership will bring a new wave of recognition and revival of indigenous sports across the continent.
