Left-arm pace bowler of Durdanto Dhaka, Shoriful Islam, seized the spotlight in the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 against Comilla Victorians. Dhaka won the toss and elected to field first, sending the Victorians to bat.
In the last three balls of the innings, Shoriful claimed three wickets to register his maiden hat-trick in the format— Khushdil Shah, Roston Chase, and Mahidul Islam. This marked the seventh hat-trick in BPL’s 10 editions, with the previous one recorded by Mrittonjoy Chowdhury.
Andre Russell, Wahab Riaz, Alis Islam, Al Amin Hossain, and Mohammad Sami have also achieved hat-tricks in the lone-franchise-based T20 league of Bangladesh. In the opening match of BPL 2024, Dhaka successfully restricted the Victorians to 143 for six. Imrul Kayes contributed 66 runs, while Towhid Hridoy scored 47.
For Dhaka, Shoriful claimed three wickets, and Taskin Ahmed secured two. While the Victorians boast four BPL titles, Durdanto Dhaka is making their debut in this season.
