Hassled DU affiliated seven-College students

  • Rules are suddenly imposed on students
  • Results take over 6 months to publish
  • Students getting no guidance for problem solving

We will sit with DU administration on students' demands - Prof. Supriya Bhattacharya, Principal, Eden Mohila College

Seven-colleges have improved a lot since affiliation. We are working to solve existing problems - Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor, DU

Dhaka College 2017-18 session student Noor-e-Alam. First batch of DU affiliation. He got a 2.70 in a fourth-year course. But after calculating CGPA, it shows 2.48. Because of this, he is still not able to take admission in Masters. He applied for change of result 17 days ago. Went to the register building for four to five days. There has been no change in the result yet. The victim student told Daily Post that many people like him got wrong results. We have repeatedly contacted DU's register building to seek redressal. But the officials misbehaved with us instead of correcting the results. Noor-e-Alam of Dhaka College. Such victims are found in every batch of all the departments of the seven colleges.

It is known that wrong results, wrong names, giving discriminatory marks in exams have become a daily occurrence in DU affiliate seven colleges. It takes 6 to 8 months for the students to get the result even though it is supposed to be 90 days. Teachers suddenly impose random rules on students. The students do not get any specific guardian even if they seek the remedy of any problem.

Students of seven colleges have recently made seven point demands regarding more such problems. College principals agreed to most of the demands. The demands are - 1. The reasons for the harassment of seven college students in the Dhaka University Register Building should be explained and the harassment of the students should be stopped. 2. Those students who are found to be non-promoted after participating in the next year's classes, in-course exams and test exams will be given the opportunity to appear in the next year's final exam through up to three subject improvement exams. 3. A student can be non-promoted for CGPA system despite passing all subjects. CGPA conditions should be relaxed. 4. Reasons for late release of results and steps taken to resolve the issue should be explained. The result should be published within a maximum of three months (90 days). 5. Who are the institutional guardians of seven college students? Where can the students present their problems? It should be fixed. 6. Formulation of academic calendar and its proper implementation should be ensured. And 7. Necessary steps should be taken to resolve teacher crisis, classroom crisis.

Antara Mim, a fourth year student of the capital's Eden Women’s College, told Daily Post about various problems in her department and the college, it takes six to eight months to get the results in our department. Meanwhile, another year of her classes started. Due to delay in getting the results, there are problems regarding whether a student have a qualifying examination or has he/she passed it? Another year's exam arrives by the time the student finds out. Then suddenly it becomes difficult to prepare.

Naeem Hossain, a master's student of Dhaka College, said that they cannot find any guardian for any problem. "When I told Dhaka College, they said to go to DU. And when you go to DU, they say inform your college administration. When we embarked on a movement, the teachers agreed with us. They assured us of solving our problems. After that I didn't get any solution", he said.

Regarding the demands of the students, Eden Women's College Principal Professor Supriya Bhattacharya told Daily Post that she has heard the demands of the students. We will sit with Dhaka University. In this regard, Professor Mohammad Yusuf, principal of Dhaka College, told Daily Post that all the demands of the students are not logical. But we are working on the logical demands of the students. We will sit with DU soon. In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman told Daily Post that the allegations made about the register building are not correct. Different people talk a lot for different purposes. We monitor regularly. Controller, Pro-Vice Chancellor is monitoring these regularly. Even if a couple of isolated incidents happen, we want them not to happen. Students of seven colleges are in much better condition than in the past. Students of seven colleges of Dhaka University are developing. Now they are used to many things. Exams are being conducted regularly on time. Their principals informed us of the improvement. We are working to fix the issues that exist now. They have a shortage of teachers and classrooms.
