Ambassadors of India, Pakistan, Russia, China, Bhutan, the Philippines, Singapore and Sri Lanka congratulated the prime minister at her official residence Ganobhaban on January 8. US Ambassador in Dhaka Peter de Haas congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for his victory as the prime minister for the fourth consecutive term after the oath-taking ceremony of the cabinet at Bangabhaban in the capital on January 11 evening. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her on securing her party's majority in the 12th parliamentary elections. Modi said in a post on his former Twitter handle. "Talked to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her on securing the historic victory for the fourth consecutive term in the parliamentary elections," Modi wrote on his X (formerly known as Twitter).
Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani also congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the prime minister. "On behalf of the people of Qatar and on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to inform you about my swearing-in as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for a new term," the Qatari Emir wrote in a message to Sheikh Hasina. "I extend my sincere good wishes for your good health and well-being and for the continued progress and development of your people as well as for further enhancing the fraternal relations between our two countries," he added.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) have congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. EIB President Nadia Calvino in her message to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: "On behalf of the EIB and on my own behalf, I would like to congratulate you on your election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fifth term." In another letter, CICA Secretary General Kairat Saribey said, "It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on your re-election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh." He also noted that Bangladesh, an active member of the CICA, has consistently supported the CICA process and has been contributing to confidence-building measures in the interest of all countries in the CICA. "I am confident that Bangladesh will utilise the potential of the CICA effectively to promote its own national and regional interests and policies," he added.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Luxembourg, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia and Brazil have congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the prime minister for the fourth consecutive term. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a congratulatory message, congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her assumption of office as the prime minister again after the general elections in Bangladesh. "I'm confident that the existing relations between our two countries based on historical and cultural ties would be further deepened and strengthened during your new tenure," he said.
In a separate message, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi extended his warmest congratulations to Sheikh Hasina on her resounding victory in the general elections as the prime minister of Bangladesh. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in his congratulatory letter, praised Sheikh Hasina for her leadership for the fourth term as prime minister which is an example of his government's remarkable achievements in the social and economic sectors. The other members of the letter are Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Luxembourg Vice-Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs Xavier Bettel. They extended their heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on securing her absolute majority in the 12th national elections in Bangladesh.
Finland Prime Minister Petri Orpo praised Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. "I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to Your Excellency on your assumption of office for a new term as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and on your formation of the new government for your country," the Finnish premier said in a congratulatory message to Sheikh Hasina.
Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her reelection as the prime minister for the fourth time. "Your re-election is a reflection of confidence reposed on your leadership by the people of Bangladesh," he said in a congratulatory message to Sheikh Hasina on January 9.
The European Union (EU) also welcomed Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the prime minister for the fourth consecutive term. At the same time, they want to take partnership and cooperation with Bangladesh to a new height. On January 18, EU Ambassador Charles Whiteley paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban. Besides, many countries including Czech Republic, Thailand, Vietnam, Argentina, Republic of Korea, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Egypt, Algeria, Kuwait, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Morocco congratulated Sheikh Hasina's government.
The AL won 223 out of 299 seats in the 12th national election held on January 7. Besides, 62 independents won, 59 of whom are AL leaders. The Jatiya Party won 11 seats. AL’s allies Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Bangladesh Workers Party have won two and Kalyan Party has won one. Voting in one seat has been suspended. The new MPs were sworn in on January 10. After taking oath, AL MPs unanimously elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the leader of their parliamentary party. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina took oath as the Prime Minister for the fifth time on January 11.Earlier, AL formed the government after winning the parliamentary elections in 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018 and Sheikh Hasina became the Prime Minister every time. As a result, the AL president made a record of becoming the Prime Minister five times in a row.
