Traffic-free highways despite vehicle pressure

Holy Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking on the door. Many people have already started leaving Dhaka to spend the festival with their loved ones and family members on the occasion of Eid. Like others years, no such traffic congestion was reported on roads and highways yesterday.

The homebound people are traveling in a festive atmosphere with some relief. Despite there was vehicles pressure, no traffic congestion was reported on the Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Mawa, Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways since yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, compared to other years, the sufferings of train journey has also decreased a bit. Except for 10 minutes, there have been no reports of major train delays so far.

On the other hand, since the inauguration of the Padma Bridge, the pressure of passengers in the launches of Barishal is quite low. Although the pressure of passengers has increased in the launch during the Eid journey, there is no news of suffering so far.

Md Riaz Uddin, a launch passenger from Bhola, told The Daily Post that the pressure of passengers during this Eid season is much less than in other years. Passengers boarded the launches of Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Hularhat, Barguna, Rangabali and Charmontaz routes as soon as they arrived at the terminal. All launches left the ghat at the specified time.

Besides, launch owners said that if the pressure increases, the launch will be increased if necessary.

The picture of the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways, known as the gateway to Northern region, is completely opposite. In the last Eid season, the passengers traveling on these routes had to suffer a lot. But this time the picture is different, the passengers of this route are returning home quite comfortably.

Nayeem Sarker, a passenger from Mymensingh, told The Daily Post that the jam is much less than last time, I do not see any problem at the moment. The pressure of vehicles has increased drastically at Chandra intersection, a place of familiar suffering, but there is no traffic congestion at all.

Transport drivers said that it is not believed that there is no traffic jam at Chandra intersection during Eid. However, this time the pressure of the car seems to be more than at other times. Due to the active presence of traffic police at every intersection, the situation is absolutely normal here.

Nazmus Sakib, additional superintendent of Gazipur district police, said more than 1,000 policemen, including 597 policemen and thana policemen, were deployed in three shifts on the Chandra-centric highway. No vehicle is allowed to stand on a few kilometers of Chandra road without special reason. Buses coming from Gabtoli, Ashulia, Baipail, Savar and Nabinagar areas are going to Northern region without suffering through Chandra area. He also said 24,710 vehicles crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge in the last 24 hours.

It was known that although everyone is worried about the 13-kilometer two-lane road from Elenga to Bangabandhu Bridge, there is no problem in traffic movement so far.

Passengers traveling on this route said that there is no traffic congestion anywhere on the highway in Tangail part. The familiar highway has given relief to the Eid journey this time. But there are two more days left for Eid.

A Bogura-bound bus driver from Dhaka said there was heavy traffic congestion on the highway at this time on other days. But with the intervention of road development and administration, traffic congestion is free. There is no problem anywhere. I am driving at normal speed.

Alamgir Ashraf, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station, said there was no pressure of transport anywhere from Elenga to the bridge. Transports are moving on the highway at normal speed. Adequate law enforcers are on duty to keep the transport movement normal. No traffic congestion was reported on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Passengers on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway are also returning home with relief.

On the other hand, the passenger pressure has increased at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital. However, most of the train passengers are happy to leave for the destination without suffering. It was known that almost all the trains except two trains including Nakshikantha left on time. Besides, there were no passengers in the beginning of the Eid journey on the waterway, but now it has increased slightly. In the morning, Greenline Paribahan left for Bhola's Elisha with 600 passengers. Launches of various nearby river routes, including Chandpur, have also left with passengers.
