No scope to go beyond Constitution
Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Presidium Member, AL
No elections under a ruling govt
Zainul Abedin Faruk, BNP Chairperson's Adviser
It has to be resolved at negotiating table, otherwise situation will be terrible
Badiul Alam Majumder, Political analyst
As the days pass by, the political situation in the country is getting worse. If the election is held according to the constitution, the election will be held under the Awami League government. But the opposition parties on the streets, including BNP-Jamaat, have all the objections to this. They say that there is no possibility of holding a fair election under the current government. On the other hand, the leaders of the ruling party say that in many democratic countries of the world, voting is held under the ruling party government, so the same will happen in Bangladesh. The BNP and its allies and the Awami League and its allies are at loggerheads over whether the election will actually be held under an interim caretaker government or a ruling party government.
Election experts want a permanent solution to the election system and what the election-time government would look like, but virtually no one has come forward to fulfill the demand. As a result, there is a dispute on the same issue. And as the election approaches, the dispute intensifies, there are clashes, there are conflicts. As a result, anxiety increases among the common people. No one is sure exactly what kind of solution this lengthy dispute will be, or if it will happen at all.
Recently, BNP announced a 15-day program and started its activities in the field. The day after BNP announced the program, the Awami League is also in the field by announcing a 12-day program. The counter-program is being made from this program. A counter-ultimatum is also being given. Recently, at least three senior BNP leaders gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government demanding the release of their party chairperson from the same rally, after which Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader gave a 36-day ultimatum to the BNP to 'come to the right path'. In other words, in addition to expressing their public support, the parties are threatening each other in their speeches. There is as much opposition among the parties on the issue of election-time government. The government and the opposition are not moving from their respective positions on this issue. As a result, no one is sure which way this dispute will be resolved.
This reporter of The Daily Post spoke to Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, one of the members of the Awami League Presidium. "It is not possible to hold the next election outside the constitution, whatever is in the constitution will happen, both parties are in the field by announcing counter-programs on the streets, how do you see this situation," the senior Awami League leader said, "If someone comes to fight, there is nothing to say, the situation will tell what will happen."
BNP chairperson's adviser and former opposition chief whip Joynul Abedin Faruk believes that BNP has nothing in mind except the movement. The party's acting chairman's directive is that no election can be held under this government, there is no chance.
BNP is fighting to establish people's right to vote. In response to a question, the senior BNP leader said that the nature of the movement will be told by the activities in the field. BNP is agitating for holding elections under an interim caretaker government as there is no possibility of any fair election under the present government, said the party's chairperson's adviser.
Founder secretary of Citizen (Sujon) Good Governance, Political Analyst, Local Government and Election Expert Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder believes that we have to solve the internal political problems of our country. We have to discuss ourselves. Parties have to sit at a table. We have to sit down and find a way to solve the problem.
Speaking to this reporter of The Daily Post, he spoke about his thoughts. Replying to a question, he said that the officials of the member countries of the country have to solve the problem. If foreign friends see any problem with us, they keep advising us, but they will not solve the problem, we have to do it.
Badiul Alam Majumder said that the European Union (EU) has said that it will not send its observer team, the United States has given a signal. These are diplomatic measures. They have done enough on their part to ensure a fair and acceptable election. The political analyst does not see any good signs of the situation as it is now.
According to him, the problem has to be solved by saying that the two sides of the opposition are on the same table. There is no alternative. If this is not done, the situation will be worse. It won't do anyone any good. "The United States has shown that it is important to resolve the ongoing crisis before any more drastic action can be taken," he said. "The world is getting smaller for those who are under sanction," the election expert said. He said that due to the sanction, not only special groups or groups will be affected, Bangladesh as a whole will be affected, the common people of the country will be affected. Therefore, those who do politics for the people and want the welfare of the people should come together at one table to solve the disputable issues.
