Five members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were temporarily suspended as two capital punishment awardees were taken away from their custody at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises on Sunday noon.
The suspended police personnel are- Court Inspector Motiur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court, prison in-charge Sub-Inspector Nahidur Rahman Bhuiyan, ATSI Mohiuddin, constables Sharif Hasan and Abdus Sattar.
Jasim Uddin, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP Prosecution wing confirmed the suspension to BSS by saying that police is looking into the matter with high importance.
“The actual reason behind the incident and true identities of the miscreants would come to the light after the investigation is completed,” he said.
Four miscreants riding on two motorcycles snatched Abu Siddiq and Moinul Hasan, capital punishment awardees in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case, from police custody on Sunday around 12 noon, after spraying some chemical on the eyes of the law enforcers.
Earlier, the two activists of banned military outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were produced before Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
On February 10, 2021, eight people including suspended army Major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia were sentenced to death and fined Taka 50,000 each for killing Dipan.
On October 31, 2015, Dipan, 43, publisher of Jagriti Prokashani, was hacked to death in his office at Shahbagh area. Later, his wife filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station.
The eight death penalty awarded convicts in the case are- suspended major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia, Akram Hossain, Mainul Hasan Shameem alias Samir alias Imran, Abdus Sabur Samad alias Sujan alias Raju alias Saad, Khairul Islam alias Jamil alias Jishan, Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab, Mozammel Hossain alias Saimon alias Shahriar and Shaikh Abdullah alias Zubair alias Zaid alias Zabed alias Abu Omair).
