Cox‍‍`s Bazar beach losing its scenic beauty

The tourism industry has developed around Cox's Bazar, the world's longest beach. Although various plans have been talked about by the government for the development of this industry, they have not seen the light of day.

Practically it remains limited to speech. Cox's Bazar beach is losing its charm due to lack of well-planned approach and effective measures to protect the beach. There is the invasion of the sea and the occupation of the powerful. In this situation, the conscious community has demanded effective measures to protect the tourism industry. Meanwhile, although there was no major event, the World Tourism Day was celebrated yesterday in Cox's Bazar through rallies, discussions and cultural events. No event was organized in hotels and motels as tourists did not come.

According to the information, the main spot for walking in Cox's Bazar is the beach. There are Buddhist temples and pagodas of the Rakhaine community, metal and bronze Buddha statues, Lal Singh Buddhist monastery with 13 small and big Buddha statues and Sada Singh monastery next to it, diverse lifestyle, Sonadia Island, Kutubdia Island, Chakaria Dulahajara Safari Park, Himachari Waterfall. There is the only fish aquarium in the country.

It is alleged that no action is taken by the concerned to protect or enhance the beauty of these tourist spots. The government has talked about various measures at various times, but practically nothing has happened. On the other hand, the beach of Cox's Bazar, including Sugandha, Kalatali, Labni Point, has been occupied by unscrupulous gangs. And license is being given by the district administration to occupy Baliari. As a result, tourists have expressed dissatisfaction at various times. Many tourists have been harassed by robbers and TomTom drivers many times. There are also complaints of charging excess rent in rice hotels and residential hotels.

Going to Cox's Bazar Sugandha Point and Kalatali Point on the surface, it can be seen that the beach has been divided by the strong current of monsoon water. Due to the accumulation of water in the hole, it is creating a risk for the tourists. There are shanty shops built with tokens provided by the district administration. It spoils the beauty of the beach. The situation in Daryanagar and Himachari is also the same. The shore of the beach has been broken by the tide. Hundreds of bushes have fallen. Beach management committee has not taken any effective steps to protect the beauty of the beach. Harassment of tourists has become a daily occurrence.

Rahim Ullah, a tourist visiting Cox's Bazar, said, I came to Cox's Bazar with my friends a few months ago. The atmosphere of the beach at that time is not there now. The entire beach is in poor condition. Baliari is divided at Kalatali and Sugandha points.

Bangladesh Environment Movement (Bapa) Cox's Bazar president HM Ershad said that the environment is being destroyed due to illegal hill cutting, destruction of forest areas, encroachment of government land, construction of unplanned buildings. Brick and stone structures are being built everywhere in the name of business. Shack shops have been built on the beach. It spoils the beauty of the beach. Apart from this, we do not see any activities of the tourism corporation.

General Secretary of Cox's Bazar Hotel Motel Guest House Owners Association Salim Newaz said that we have been repeatedly demanding the beach management committee to protect the beauty of the beach. But nothing is working. Sometimes the incidents of tourist harassment also have a negative impact on this industry. As a result, we have to face losses.

Tourist Police Cox's Bazar Assistant Superintendent of Police Abul Kalam said, Tourist Police is always trying to ensure the safety of tourists.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner and President of the Beach Management Committee Mohammad Salauddin said, I have just taken responsibility. I have already started homework on how to arrange the tourist city. To solve the waterlogging in the tourism area, we have determined six things to be done in a meeting with the related parties including the Roads and Public Paths, Cox's Bazar Municipality, Algae and Coral of the Tourism Corporation, Air Force. A supervision committee of citizens has been constituted. In a word, we have a comprehensive plan around Cox's Bazar. However, he wished everyone's joint initiative and cooperation.
