Eid is knocking on the door. Educational institutions have been closed for a long time. Public and private institutions are also on holiday. Many have returned to the village to share the joy of Eid with their families. But there are exceptions.  After passing the difficult stage of the final professional examination, the doctors who are working as intern will also spend the busy time during Eid.

Emergency healthcare cannot stop. Many patients are admitted to the hospital during Eid, new patients also come. Therefore, starting from the intern, almost all doctors are on duty during Eid. Many people do not know the story of how they spend their Eid. Adib Rahman is working as an intern doctor in Dhaka Medical College Hospital after passing MBBS. The upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr will be on holiday to serve patients in the hospital. He said, this is the first time to celebrate Eid without family. I am going to experience a completely new experience. When I read about medical science, the teachers often said in the class that you have to sacrifice to become a doctor. Many joys and pains have to be hidden within oneself. I will miss my family this Eid. However, self-dedication to the service of people is working well. Jannatul Ferdous is working as an intern doctor after passing out from Suhrawardy Medical College. In the upcoming Eid, she will also spend Eid on duty in the hospital without getting leave.

He said, Eid without family is not new to me. Last year also I did hospital duty during Eid holidays. Eid without family is difficult. But I enjoy joy of serving people. I share joy with patients on Eid. I don't feel like I am without family. How many people recover and return home. It's nice to see them. Meanwhile, Directorate General of Health Services has issued 12-point instructions for hospital workers to ensure emergency health care during the Eid holidays. The instructions are - To ensure adequate manpower and medical care at the workplace during the holiday period, the manpower may be given leave in phases by coordinating before and after Eid.

The Head of the Institution shall grant leave proportionately, giving priority to uninterrupted emergency medical operations and public interest.

Organizations can coordinate the necessary manpower within their district only during the Eid holidays by informing the Civil Surgeon, Divisional Director. A full-time presence of a doctor should be ensured in the emergency department. Emergency department and labor room, emergency OT should be kept open round the clock.

Heads of units in internal departments will supervise the work on a day to day basis. Medical college hospitals, specialized hospitals, district headquarter hospitals and upazila health complexes should keep emergency labs and X-ray services open round the clock.

Sufficient medicines, IV fluid chemical re-agents, surgical materials should be stocked and promptly supplied for the duration of the leave before the commencement of the leave. In this case, the store keeper or the staff in charge during vacation must stay in their own district and upazila.

Ambulance service should be kept open round the clock. Advance notice should be given to local administration and law enforcement agencies for holiday hospital security.

Heads of organizations and heads of various departments will regularly communicate with the officers and employees providing holiday services and exchange skills on the day of Eid. If the head of the organization takes leave, he must assign the responsibility to someone according to the rules and the employee who takes the responsibility will perform all the duties properly. The name and mobile number of the responsible person should be intimated to the higher authorities. The head of the institution will supervise the serving of quality food to the patients on the day of Eid and exchange greetings with the patients. Regarding special arrangements for Eid for hospital patients, Director of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital & Institute Professor Dr Md. Jahangir Alam said that Eid brings joy to people. But in spite of this happiness, some people got sick and were treated in the hospital. On an average, two to three hundred patients are admitted in our hospital during Eid. Many doctors, nurses, employees are on duty. We all share the joy of Eid together. Moreover, special food is arranged for everyone on Eid. Apart from the family, the hospital patients have become another family for us. The sacrifices of the doctors who leave their families to serve the patients in the hospital to serve the people during Eid are commendable.
