ECNEC approves 10 development projects for country

In the ninth meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) of the current financial year, 10 projects have been approved. The implementation of these projects will cost Taka 5 thousand 563 crore 67 lakh. Out of this, Taka 5 thousand 203 crore 20 lakh will be spent from government funds and Tk 360 crore 47 lakh from foreign loan assistance.

The projects were approved at the ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sher-E-bangla Nagar on Thursday (May 9). After the meeting, Planning Minister Abdus Salam and State Planning Minister Shahiduzzaman Sarkar briefed the journalists.

Planning Secretary Satyajit Karmakar, Agriculture, Water and Rural Institutions Department member Abdul Baki, Statistics and Information Management Department Secretary Dr. Shahnaz Arefin and Physical Infrastructure Department member Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian were present at this time.

It was informed in the briefing that 10 projects including revisions and new projects have been raised in ECNEC meeting. Among them, 3 of the physical infrastructure department; 2 of the Department of Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Institutions; 3 in Socio-Economic Infrastructure and two in Industries and Energy. Apart from this, 4 more project proposals approved by Planning Minister for extension of time are presented to ECNEC for approval.

Among the approved projects there are the Sheikh Hasina Medical University establishment project in Khulna proposed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Capacity Building of Statistics Service Based on Platform Project of Statistics and Information Management Department, China Aid Project of Burn Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh titled project. The Important rural infrastructure development project of Pirojpur and Jhalkathi districts of local government department and the rural infrastructure development project of Barisal district.

Program for Sustainability in the Textile and Leather Sector (Steel) proposed by the Ministry of Commerce, Conversion of Production Method from Wet Process to Dry Process (1st Revised) of Chhatak Cement Company Limited of Sylhet proposed by the Ministry of Industry, New Circuit House building in place of the existing circuit house building in Dhaka District of the Ministry of Public Administration. Construction of circuit house building, construction of various infrastructural facilities of the newly formed Gazipur (63 BGB) Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh and Urban Resilience Project (URP) of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief: DDM Part (3rd Revised).

Apart from this, a proposal of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources for 'Installation of Wellhead Compressor at Titas Gas Field Location (2nd Revised)' has been approved. Apart from that, the Ministry of Defense's Strengthening the Capacity of Weather and Climate Services project was approved by the Planning Minister, and the project of installing road lights (2nd revised) on various roads in 33 wards of Rangpur City Corporation of the local government department. Apart from this, Accelerating Economic and Social Inclusion of Smallholder Farmers through Strong Producers Organization (ACCESS) projects were briefed to the ECNEC meeting.
