Students disappointed as lack of evaluation system

There is no need for revaluation as there are fast, second and third examiners

There should be an opportunity to re-evaluate the exam book -

In public university, unexpectedly some students result puzzled them in a very rustic way and made them feel a traumatic feeling. They study hard and try hard but sometimes luck isn’t on their side. It can happen in many forms. One of the common forms of the bad results in public universities is the conflict between the teacher and the students. It is open secret to all of the public students and teachers too. And there could be other way around of it like the technical problems. Whatever it is the students are the ultimate sufferer as there is no re-valuation system of exam paper.

Jagannath University has recently published the results of Masters in a department. There only four got CGPA 3 points above 25. And out of 64 students, only 28 students got above 3 points. Students are surprised by such results of masters. Most of the students in that batch have an Honors CGPA of 3 points above 25. Why such a sudden result? Students do not have an answer to such a question. Some of them are saying that the test we gave should not give such bad results. There must have been a problem somewhere. Results of so many students in one batch cannot be bad. The university administration did not give us that opportunity to apply for revaluation.

Not only Jagannath University. Many universities in the country do not have the opportunity to re-evaluate the semester final or end-of-year exam results of Hon’s-Masters. As a result some of the students are getting lower results than expected. They are holding back from applying for jobs in good organizations due to not getting the desired results. Due to this there is dissatisfaction among the students. However, the universities say that there is no need for this opportunity as the results are prepared by combining the fast, second and third examiners. On the other hand, academicians think that universities should keep this opportunity. Through Mahfuz Nafi, who has just passed his master's degree from JU’ said, "I want to challenge with 100% confidence in these three courses of television, public relations and advertising in the second semester of master's." But we don't have challenge rules here. Although the chairman of the department agrees with us, he cannot do anything because there is no law. Since there is no law, why should there not be a law, we will take a petition to the VC. We want this problem not to arise in the next batches. It needs a permanent solution.

Nabil Hasan said CGPA along with other skills are considered very important in today's job market. 3.50 Eligibility to apply in various private banks of the first tier. Positions like research assistance in research institutes and NGOs have CGPA requirements. A few days ago while applying for a fellowship I noticed that they asked for a specific CGPA. If a candidate has a low CGPA, he/she has to explain why his/her CGPA is low. We are and will continue to be faced with obstacles of this kind. However, the university did not allow us to re-evaluate our accounts.

Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Golam Sabbir Sattar Tapu said that there are certain rules governing the universities. The Academic Council members take that decision. We have fast examiner, second examiner here. Besides, if necessary, we send the account to the third examiner. Therefore, there is no need for re-evaluation here.

Universities that have the opportunity to re-evaluate have kept that opportunity in consideration of the students. Jashore Science and Technology University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain said there is an opportunity for re-evaluation in our university. If a student feels that he should have secured more marks, he can apply for revaluation of his account within the specified period. We have also kept this opportunity for job applicants in our university. They can apply by challenging the account if they want. After receiving the application, we re-assess the portfolio in front of an appointed student representative.

The Director of Education and Research Department of Dhaka University said that the account should be re-evaluated. Hafizur Rahman told my news that there should be an opportunity to re-evaluate the examination report. This is more important especially in case of subjective or written exams. What is four feet to you may be five feet to someone else. Therefore, if there is an opportunity for revaluation, the students will get a fair right. This will not be the case for everyone. This may be the case with a few students.
