Court sent 10 former councilors of Barishal City Corporation to jail in three cases including arson in BNP office. 11 more people were sent to jail in these cases. Barishal Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Md Ashraf Uddin gave this order yesterday morning.
Earlier, they came to appear in the court yesterday after the 4-week anticipatory bail period of the High Court. The newly ex-Councillors of Barishal City Corporation sent to jail are Samsuddoha Abid, Samjidul Kabir Babu, Awal Molla, Kefayed Hossain Roni, Khan Mohammad Hossain, Joynal Abedin Md. Joynal Abedin Howladar, Anwal Hossain Royal, Enamul Haque Bahar, Humayun Kabir and Ziaul Haque Masum.
Advocate Hafiz Ahmed Bablu, the plaintiff's lawyer, said that on August 4, a total of 21 defendants appeared before the court and applied for bail in 3 cases including vandalism and arson of the district and metropolitan BNP offices on Sadar Road in Barishal city, and attacks on the leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement. Later, after listening to the lawyer's speech, the judge sent the accused to jail.
