The advisor of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Farida Akhter, said, "It is possible to upgrade indigenous cattle breeds to a world-class level if proper support and correct methods are ensured in their production."
The advisor said these things while delivering the chief guest speech at the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed dormitory building (White Hall) of the Livestock Department through the Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) of the BCS Livestock Academy in Savar this morning.
She also said that research on the quality and ingredients of animal feed should be strengthened, if necessary, to protect cattle health.
Highlighting the importance of training field-level officers in the development of the livestock sector, the livestock advisor said that the new dormitory and training in a pleasant environment will increase the efficiency of livestock officers, and the farmers of the country will benefit from this.
She said that due to the cooperation and awareness of upazila and district livestock officers and veterinary doctors, the cattle in Qurbani this year were healthy and strong.
Stating that industrial-factory animal husbandry is hurting climate change, the livestock advisor said that if this trend continues, the country`s marginal farm system will face destruction.
She also said that the way farmers are currently raising livestock, it is very important to develop and apply effective vaccines to prevent diseases.
Calling for subsidies in the livestock sector, like agriculture, the advisor said that farmers will directly benefit from subsidies. Discussions are underway at various levels of the government on this issue.
She also said that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has taken the initiative to form a new department for the welfare of the families of those injured and martyred in the July mass uprising. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has also been involved in this initiative.
She urged the officials of this sector to play an effective role in developing not only the family members of the martyrs and injured but also other youth as entrepreneurs.
Then the advisor visited the various activities of the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm and inquired in detail about the current status and activities of the farm. She also visited the Central Artificial Insemination Laboratory.

Director General of the Department of Livestock, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, presided over the event, BCS Livestock Academy Director Dr. A. K. M. Humayun Kabir, Livestock Department Director Dr. Begum Shamshunnahar Ahmed, and Livestock Department Director Md. Shahzaman Khan, LDDP Project Chief Technical Coordinator, Dr. Md. Golam Rabbani, along with officials of the Livestock Department and BCS Livestock Academy, and officials of the 33rd and 43rd batches of BCS Livestock Cadre who came for training were present.
LDDP Project Director Dr. Md. Jasim Uddin delivered the welcome speech.
