Monija Khatun, senior assistant secretary and executive magistrate of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, conducted an operation to remove illegal gas connections at four spots on Monday in the Baylor and Nayapur areas of Sonargaon Upazila, Narayanganj District, under the Sonargaon Regional Sales Division of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC.
During the operation, gas connections to approximately 2,000 residential burners in an area of around 6.5 km have been disconnected. During this time, 215 feet of 2” diameter, 50 feet of 1.5” diameter, and 70 feet of 1.25” diameter MS line/pipe were removed/seized. Also, plastic pipes were destroyed at the source. Illegal distribution/service lines were uprooted, and killing/capping was done from the source point.
On the same day, a special team formed by the Regional Vigilance Division-Narayanganj conducted a phased operation from 6.00 am in the Jobia-Munshiganj area under ABIB-Narayanganj and the Jobia-Meghnaghat area under ABIB-Sonargaon. M/s Tanmoy Fishing Net Industries Ltd was a previously disconnected customer. When the team entered the yard for inspection, the inspection could not be carried out as the customer representative obstructed it.
