19 lives lost in road crash across country

19 people were killed in road accidents across the country. Among them, 9 people died in Barguna, 2 people in Munsiganj, 2 people in Bagerhat, 1 person in Faridpur, 1 person in Chapainbabganj, 1 person in Natore,1 in Tangail and 2 in dohar. News from our correspondent:-

 

Barguna

At least nine people were killed and several others injured as a microbus and an auto-rickshaw carrying a bridal party plunged into a canal from a bridge in Amtali upazila of Barguna yesterday.The bridge connecting the Chawra and Haldia Hat area of the upazila broke down at around 2 pm on yesterday when the microbus and auto-rickshaw were crossing it. The passengers of the auto-rickshaw got out of the vehicle but most of the passengers were stuck in the microbus. The passengers were headed for a wedding party from Madaripur district. Asadazzaman Mintu Mollik, chairman of Haldia Union Parishad, said several people were also injured. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Officer-in-charge of Amtali police station Kazi Shakhawat Hossain Tapu said nine bodies, so far, have been recovered from the canal. Among the deceased two were women.

The bodies were sent to Amtali Health Complex. The victims were the passengers of the microbus. The death toll may increase, the OC said around 3:30 pm, adding that the microbus is still under water. The bodies of 9 people have been recovered in this incident. The deceased were Raiti (30), mother-in-law Rumi Begum (40), Farida Begum (40), Munni Begum (40), Tahiya (7), Tasdia (11), Fatema Begum (40), Zakia and Ridi (5). A young man named Sukkur Ali, a relative of the deceased, said that they had gone to Barguna for the wedding ceremony on Wednesday. Their microbus fell into the canal after the bridge broke yesterday. A total of 7 members of Mahabub's mother, brother's wife, and uncle's family have died. Another person named Dulal Matubbar said the entire village was in mourning. A total of 9 members of the two families died. We came to Mahabub's house after getting the news. None of their family is at home. Everyone went to the event. No one is home now. Bhadrasan Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Rahim Bepari said we came home after getting the news. We are speechless with such a big accident. Now I have received news that preparations are underway to bring their bodies home. Shibchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Mamun said I have come to know about the matter. Very tragic event. Preparations are underway to bring the body home.

 

Munshiganj

Two people were killed and four others injured after a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district on yesterday morning. The deceased were identified as Sheikh Abdur Rahman, 58, and Shahin Hossain, 26, both from Dhaka's Dohar upazila. Locals said a Dhaka-bound bus coming from Nababganj collided with a Nababganj-bound three-wheeler on the Dhaka-Nababganj road in Kharsur Taltola area around 10 am, leaving six passengers of autorickshaw critically injured. Later, they were rescued and taken to Nababganj  Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared the duo dead. The injured are undergoing treatment in the health complex.  Muzahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said that the bus and the auto-rickshaw have been seized by the police. Legal actions will be taken in this regard, he added.

 

Kishoreganj

Six people, including four pilgrims, were injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a lorry on their way home after Hajj in Kishoreganj. The accident took place at around 11 o'clock yesterday on Hossainpur-Kishorganj road near Noor shop market. Hossainpur Upazila Fajar Service Station Officer Rakibul Hasan confirmed the incident. The injured in the accident are Nizam Uddin (64), Talayara Ara Shammi (58), Kasem Mia (63), Shahidullah and Rafiqul Islam Khokon. According to local sources, the microbus carrying four pilgrims from Dhaka was heading towards Kishoreganj yesterday morning. At that time, on reaching the Noor shop market area on the Hossainpur-Kishorganj road, there was a head-on collision with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. 6 people including four pilgrims were seriously injured. Later, the locals rescued the injured and took them to Hossainpur Upazila Health Complex. One person was sent to Kishoreganj 250-bed general hospital in critical condition. The rest were sent home after primary treatment. Station Officer of Hossainpur Upazila Fire Service Rakibul Hasan said, we arrived at the scene as soon as we got the news. 6 people including four Hajis were injured in the accident. They were rescued and sent to the hospital.

 

Bagerhat

A father and son were killed when a bus hit them at Fakirhat in Bagerhat. The victim's wife was injured at this time. The accident took place at Piljung area of ​​Fakirhat upazila on the Bagerhat-Khulna highway yesterday at 8:30 am. The deceased were Khalilur Rahman Rari (35) of Garia area of ​​Patuakhali district and his one-year-old son. The injured Khalilur Rahman's wife Minu Begum (30) was rescued and taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex. Monirul Islam, Station Leader of Fakirhat Fire Service Station, said that Khalilur Rahman Rari was going to his in-laws' home in Jessore on a motorcycle with his wife and children from Patuakhali in the morning. On reaching Piljung area, the father and son died on the spot after being hit by a bus coming from the opposite direction. Meanwhile, Minu Begum, wife of Khalilur Rahman, was seriously injured. He was quickly rescued and taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Katakhali Highway police station Mizanur Rahman said, the body is in our custody. The family of the deceased has been informed. The motorcycle was recovered and the bus seized. However, the bus driver and his accomplice escaped. Legal action is under process in this incident.

 

Faridpur

A motorcyclist named Russell (40) was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle and fell on the road in Faridpur when he was hit by an unknown vehicle. The accident took place at GP Tower area of ​​Shivrampur in Faridpur Sadar Upazila around 2.30 pm on yesterday. Russell is a resident of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari. He was working in a company. Deputy Inspector (SI) Kawsar Ahmed of Faridpur's Karimpur Highway Police confirmed the accident. He said that Russell was going to his uncle's house by riding a motorcycle from his home in Baliakandi. On the way, he lost control of the motorcycle in Shivrampur GP Tower area and fell on the highway. He died on the spot when an unknown car hit him on the head. The police officer said that legal measures are under process in this regard.

 

Gomostapur (Chapainawabganj)

Mokhseduzzaman Tasin (18), a   student of Dhaka Residential Model College died in a road accident in Gomostapur of Chapainawabganj. He was the son of Asadur Rahman of Chiniyatal village in Rahanpur town area of ​​the upazila. The accident took place on Chiniyatla road of Rahanpur-Nachol road in Rahanpur town area of ​​the upazila at around 11 am yesterday. Gomostapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Chowdhury Zubair Ahmed said that the deceased, Mokhseduzzaman Tasin, was on his way to his home from Rahanpur on a motorcycle at around 11 o'clock. Later the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Later, the police arrived and handed over the body of the deceased to the family after completing the report. A UD case has been filed in Gomostapur police station in this regard.

 

Natore

An old woman named Rehena Begum (55) died after being hit by a private car crossing the road in Natore's Lalpur. The accident took place at Tilakpur area of ​​Lalpur-Ishwardi road of the upazila around 1 pm yesterday. Deceased Rehena Begum was the wife of Ansar Ali of that area. According to police and local sources, at noon, Rehena Begum was standing next to the white-spotted sign of the road to cross the road. Meanwhile, a white colored private car of Ishwardi Grami hit Rehena Begum and left. Rehena Begum died on the spot. Local No. 2 Ishwardi UP Chairman Abdul Aziz Ranju confirmed the truth of the incident. Officer-in-charge of Lalpur police station Mo Nashim Ahmed confirmed the truth of the incident and said that after receiving information, the body of the deceased was recovered from the spot and the killer's private car was seized and brought to the police station. He said that legal measures are being taken in this regard.

Mirzapur (Tangail)

A  leader was killed in a bus-Laguna collision in Mirzapur on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. The accident happened yesterday at 8:30 am in Baniz Market area of ​​Gogai Union of Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. The deceased is Rubel Molla (36), son of Abul Molla of Amrail Telipara village of Bhaora union of upazila. Amjad Hossain, president of Bhaora Union Awami League, said that he is the joint leader of that union volunteer league. The police and locals said that the Dhaka Metro-B 15-1094 bus from Tangail reached the Banij Market area of ​​Dhaka-Tangail highway and hit the Kaliakair-bound Gazipur-Ch 11-0611 Laguna from behind, causing the driver of the Laguna car, Rubel Molla, to die on the spot. In this regard, Sub-Inspector (SI) Anisuzzaman of Gogai Highway Police Station said that we recovered the body of the deceased after receiving information. Bus-Laguna has been impounded. The bus driver and helper were not found. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family after legal proceedings.

 

Dohar, Nawabganj

A college student and a former UP member were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG bus in Kharsur area on the Dhaka Nawabganj regional road. 4 others including a college girl were injured. The accident took place at Taltala area of ​​Kharsur on the border of Nawabganj and Sirajdikhan at around 9 am yesterday.

The deceased were Sheikh Abdur Rahman (67), a former member of Narisha Union Parishad of Dohar Upazila and son of Sheikh Gias Uddin of Satvita village, and second year student of Joypara Technical School and College. Shaheen (25). Shaheen is the son of Sheikh Razzak of Islampur Khalpar village in Doha. It is reported that 4 people including the injured college student Mim (27) were immediately taken to Dhaka. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station Shah Jalal confirmed the truth of the accident and said that the accident site was in Sirajdikhan police station area. The police are looking into the matter in relation to the border and the incident.
