An earthquake hit Sylhet in the morning

An earthquake occurred in Sylhet in the early hours of the morning. The epicentre of the earthquake is in neighbouring Myanmar.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake of moderate magnitude occurred at 4:22 am on Friday. 

Said Ahmed Chowdhury, a senior meteorologist at the Sylhet Meteorological Office, said the epicentre of the quake was in Myanmar‍‍`s Mawlaik district, 471 km east of the capital Dhaka. Its magnitude was 5.6 on the Richter scale.

Earlier in May, an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 hit the Myanmar city of Falam. Which has an impact on the hilly areas of the south-east of Bangladesh. There were no reports of any damage in Sylhet in the early hours of Friday. However, people in different areas said that many people woke up in the morning and ran away.
