Exceptional initiative of youth and local people

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the law and order situation in the border areas deteriorated.

Local youth and residents have been guarding the border of Kuripaika and Hirapur villages of Akhaura upazila in Brahmanbaria for two months. They are guarding periodically on the basis of voluntary labor. This guard is arranged to prevent human, drug trafficking, smuggling. Locals claim that border crime has decreased.

It has been seen, about a hundred youths among the villagers wearing similar clothes are guarding the border with sticks, sticks and flashlights in their hands. If strangers are seen in the area at night, they are being interrogated.

According to the locals, since the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, around a hundred youths of the area have been guarding the area on the Kurpaika and Hirapur border to prevent drug and human trafficking for the sake of the country and the people.

Monir Hossain Rana (35), who is busy guarding, said that Hasina, the godfather of some drugs during the previous government, was silent at the beginning of the fall but has now become active again. So our border guard has been kept intact.

Munir Munna said that they are guarding the border from 10 pm to 4 am. Among them, drug users and drug traffickers are being caught and handed over to the law enforcement agencies.

Suhail Bhuiyan (30) said that drug and human trafficking has reduced a lot with the border guard. Some drug dealers and border criminals are threatening to remove this guard but we are not afraid of their threats. He also said that the border guarding will continue until drugs are eliminated from the border.

Akhaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abul Hasim said, the local youths of the same area are patrolling the border of Hirapur and Bara Kuripaika of Akhaura Upazila to prevent drug, smuggling and human trafficking. He also said that if this initiative is taken in other villages of the upazila, it is possible to bring crime under control. Akhaura Thana Police will continue to provide full cooperation for the activities of these volunteer organizations.
