Inheritance certificate issued excluding two daughters

The UP chairman signed the inheritance certificate issued by the Union Parishad as the deceased's heirs in exchange for a large sum of money in collusion with the UP member.

Mahfuza Akhtar, Chairman of Mirjarchar UP of Raipura, Narsingdi, issued an inheritance certificate on November 23 through illegal financial transactions on a government holiday.

It is known that Sabdar Ali alias Gedu Mia of Rirampur village under Ward No. 4 of Mirjarchar Union, a remote char area of the upazila, died on April 1, 1978. Currently, 3 sons and 5 daughters are claiming as his heirs.

It has already been 45 years and 6 months since his death. In the past 45 years, Sabdar Ali's children or heirs have not required any inheritance certificate. But recently, his second son Siddiq Mia applied to the Union Parishad for an inheritance certificate, excluding the names of their two sisters and mentioning the names of 3 brothers and 3 sisters as the heirs of their father. Because of his application, UP member of Ward No. 4 of Mirzarchar Union Parishad, Basid Mia, recommended it in exchange for a large sum of money, and his connivance, UP Chairman Mahfuza Akhter signed and issued an inheritance certificate mentioning the names of 3 sons and 3 daughters as the heirs of Sabdar Ali. As a result, Sabdar Ali's two daughters were deprived of their ancestral inheritance, which is a punishable crime.

In this regard, the victim Amena Begum said, we are 5 sisters and 3 brothers. But my brothers, excluding my name and another sister, obtained an inheritance certificate from the Parishad office in the name of their 3 brothers and 3 sisters to claim the property of their deceased father.

In this regard, attempts to contact Sabdar Ali's son Siddique Mia were unsuccessful.

Later, despite several attempts to talk to UP member Basit Mia on his mobile phone for the past two days, it was impossible to talk to him as he did not receive the call.

When contacted, Mirzarchar UP Chairman Mahfuza Akhter said, "Why did you ask me about this matter? Go and ask the member. It is not my job to verify. This is the member's job. So, whatever you want to know about this matter, you will find out from him."

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Iqbal Hasan said regarding the matter, "I am not aware of the incident. If any complaint comes to me, I will take action subject to investigation."

Deputy Director of Narsingdi Local Government Department, Mousumi Sarkar Rakhi, said, "Appropriate action will be taken after inquiry into this matter."
