DNCC launches drive to recover 1500 acres of water bodies

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today launched a special drive to recover its 1500 acres of water bodies and wetlands under the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK).

As part of the drive, Administrator of the DNCC Mohammad Azaz inaugurated a programme at Aftabnagar for setting up a sign board banning the sale and buy, or change of the basic type of lands as per DAP to protect the water bodies of the area. 

Similar signboards with the government’s restriction have been set up on 377 points (dag) of land to protect 185 acres of wetlands. Similar boards with injunctions on handing over the lands of water bodies under the DAP would also be set up soon. A special drive in this regard will also be started soon.

After inaugurating the drive, the DNCC Administrator said that the innocent buyers will not be cheated if such sign boards with a ban had been set up earlier. Once, many apartments were constructed by encroaching on the land of parks, water bodies, and wetlands by changing the original character of it, he added.

During the last three decades, an unethical and black economy was developed, centering the housing sector, Mohammad Azad said, adding that the land was turned into a product. To buy a plot or flat in the capital is almost impossible for an honest man living in Dhaka due to the corruption, he said.

Among others, the Chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha, Engineer Md Reazul Islam, was present at that time.
