Jashore’s Chaugachha Model Hospital received the country's best award 16 times in medical services. But now the hospital in trouble to provide health services due to manpower shortage. At present, the activities of this hospital are running with half the manpower. As a result, patients are being deprived of quality services.

According to hospital sources, the hospital does not have junior consultant gynae, surgery, medicine, paediatrics, ortho, cardio, eye, ENT, dermatology and sexual and newly created assistant surgeons, IMOs, pathologists, anesthetists and even resident medical officers. At present, 21 posts of medical officers, including critical anaesthesia, ortho and paediatrician, are lying vacant at the hospital. In addition, 2 senior staff nurses, chief assistants, chief assistant--accountant, cashier, office assistant, accountant, 37 out of 71 posts are vacant.

Mofizur Rahman of Koyarpara village, Shahinur Rahman of Hakimpur village, Abul Bashar of Dulalpur village, Rabiul Islam of the municipal area and many others who came to the hospital said that they are standing in line for hours in the heat of the sun. It has become difficult to get emergency services here.

Dr Lutfunnahar, health and family planning officer of the hospital, said, "We have to work with half of the manpower. It is not possible to provide quality service with this manpower. To provide patient satisfaction services, vacancies must be filled. In the meantime, applications have been made online for the recruitment of vacant posts."

Jashore Civil Surgeon Dr Biplob Kanti said that in proportion to the number of doctors and hospitals in the country, five doctors are divided in the Upazila Health Complex. Chaugachha is an exception. Suddenly, many have been transferred elsewhere. So vacancies have been created. We continue to work to fill this posts.
