Nabanna festival with new paddy

 

The month of Agrahayan of the Bangla year begins. Agrahayan means the whole season of paddy threshing and smell of paddy.

The autumn period will end with the gathering of cakes and other traditional fest of Bangalis. Now Nabanna moth begins; winter is still a month away. There will be a fog-soaked winter season wrapped in Paush and Magh months.

Meanwhile, the taste of winter season cake begins in the autumn. Preparations for collecting juice from palm trees go on in the autumn. Rural housewives prepare flour powder made of paddy to make winter cakes.

Guests and relatives are known as the month of invitation to Agrahayan Nabanna. Poets and litterateurs have written novels in addition to songs, poems. Various programs of Nabanna can also be seen on the small screen. All in all, Nabanna means the feeling of decorating the rural environment.

Harvesting new paddy is the real harvest of rural Bengal. Farmers find the success of the crop by handing over kheer-payas made of threshed rice to their loved ones. Along with the farmers of the upazila, rural women have also become active in the courtyard of the house centering the festival of Nabanna.

From the morning, the farmers take various preparations for drying the paddy in the courtyard. Agrahayan is celebrated as Nabanna by entertaining guests with different types of food made from new paddy and rice which is a ritual decoration festival.
