The driver of Kamal Uddin, deputy director of Pathila Farm in Jhenaidah's Dattanagar Agricultural Farm, has been accused of paying government salary as a farm worker.
According to the information, Md. Kamal Uddin joined the firm as a deputy director two years ago. There were many allegations of irregularities against him before. Kamal Uddin has been paying his wife's driver Ripon Biswas as a worker of Pathila Farm for five months through Sonali Bank.
According to the investigation, the deputy director of the firm lives in Jhenaidah city's Jhinuk Tower with his family. There is a private car (Dhaka Metro-Gha-15-5004) for his wife and family members.
Ripon Biswas, son of Md. Intaz Biswas of Udaipur village of Jhenaidah municipality, was appointed to drive this car. Ripon is a professional driver. He has been making a living by driving cars of different people or organizations.
For the last five months, Ripon Biswas has been paid to an account of Sonali Bank, the Jibannagar branch of Chuadanga. Earlier, a salary account was opened with the Jibannagar Sonali Bank branch of Ripon Biswas as a worker of Pathila Farm in Dattanagar.
At the end of last month, when a transaction of Tk 3 lakh 12 thousand was made in the account of Ripon Biswas, the bank authorities said that it was due to mistake. In the meantime, Ripon Biswas withdrew the money from the account and spent it. As a result, the bank authorities were forced to come to Jhenaidah town to recover money. Later, it was disclosed that Ripon Biswas was originally the personal driver of the wife of the deputy director of Pathila Farm, Md Kamal Uddin, but he was getting salary as farm worker.
It has been alleged that the deputy directors of five firms in Dattanagar are embezzling government money by arranging many anonymous workers.
Driver Ripon Biswas said, "Kamal sir asked me to open an account with Jibannagar branch Sonali Bank. But I don't work on the farm. Kamal Sir's family lives in Jhenaidah city's Jhinuk Tower. I drive their private car."
Kamal Uddin said, "I have appointed him as my helping hand. My family lives in Jhenaidah city. Ripon Biswas knows how to drive, so he works from Jhenaidah to bring my children to school. There is no irregularity in the government's salary being paid through the Jibannagar branch of Sonali Bank."
AKM Kamruzzaman, joint director of the department, did not receive the phone when called on his mobile phone for information.
