11.88 pc growth rate in revenue collection

Tk 75 crore revenue as compared to last financial year, has increased in Benapole Customs House till February of the current financial year due to comprehensive tightening and reforming new laws to prevent revenue evasion. The growth rate of revenue collection increased to 11.88 percent.

According to customs sources, the target of revenue collection from July to February of the last fiscal year 2023-2024 is Tk 4 thousand 143 crores. The revenue collected is Tk 4 thousand 218.74 crores. Tk 75 crore of revenue has increased. So far, revenue evasion of Tk 1 crore has been detected from the shipment of 10 items. Customs authorities have collected a fine of Tk 2 crore 25 lakh on the charge of revenue evasion.

Joint Commissioner of Customs House-1 Md Hafizul Islam said that in the last financial year 2022-23, the revenue was Tk 1 thousand 252.21 crore from the shipment of only 10 items till February. In the current fiscal year 2023-24, the revenue from the consignments of 10 items has been Tk 1 thousand 667.25 crore till February. Tk 415.14 crores revenue increased.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Abdul Hakim said that container cargo has been started by train through Benapole port on the instructions of the National Board of Revenue. Previously, 500-600 truckloads of goods were imported daily through Benapole, now due to the dollar crisis, imports have reduced to 350 trucks daily.

He said, Tk 30 thousand crores of trade with India is done annually through Benapole port. The zero-tolerance policy is being followed to prevent revenue evasion at Benapole Port. Several irregularities have already been detected. They were been fined 200 percent by paying the revenue.
