Chinese investor Kaixi Group has once again chosen BEPZA Economic Zone (BEPZA EZ) as its preferred destination for expansion, signing a new agreement today to invest $ 40.05 million in the intimate garments and related accessories manufacturing industry.
The agreement was signed between the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd., a concern of Kaixi Group, at the BEPZA Complex, Dhaka. BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, BSP, ndc, psc witnessed the signing ceremony. Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA Md. Ashraful Kabir and Chairman of Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd. Xiao Hongxi signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Under this new project, the company will produce 18 million pairs of lingerie and undergarments and 20 million pairs of bra foam and bra cups annually, creating jobs for 3,003 Bangladeshi nationals.
BEPZA Executive Chairman welcomed Kaixi Group’s latest move, saying their decision to expand just 14 months after starting operations shows growing confidence of foreign investors in BEPZA, especially in BEPZA Economic Zone.
He thanked Kaixi for their continued trust and praised them as pioneer investors of BEPZA EZ.
Speaking at the event, Xiao Hongxi highlighted some operational challenges, mentioning that the absence of nearby worker housing forces them to bring workers from distant locations, which delays morning attendance. Despite such challenges, he reaffirmed Kaixi’s commitment to Bangladesh and to BEPZA EZ.
Kaixi’s first project in BEPZA EZ, was sanctioned in November 2022 with an investment proposal of US$ 60.85 million, began commercial production in June 2024 and currently employs about 3,700 workers. Together, their two existing factories—one in Dhaka EPZ and one in BEPZA EZ—have created jobs for approximately 6,000 workers.
Senior officials of BEPZA, including Member (Engineering) Md. Imtiaz Hossain, Member (Finance) A N M Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md. Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Enterprise Services) Md. Khorshid Alam, and Executive Director (Public Relations) A.S.M Anwar Parvez attended the signing ceremony, along with representative of Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd.
So far, 45 companies, including Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd., have signed agreements to invest a total of more than US $ one billion in BEPZA EZ, of which four have already started commercial operation. BEPZA EZ is the largest venture of BEPZA, symbolizing the Authority’s commitment to fostering industrial growth, employment, and export earnings in Bangladesh.
