Litchi buds on the trees

The litchi gardens of Dinajpur are bloomed with full of flowers. Flowers are spread all around. Orchard owners hope that there will be a bumper yield of litchi this season. Litchi is being cultivated on 5,400 hectares of land in the district.

Ashraful Islam, a litchi orchard owner of Mongla village in Hakimpur upazila, said, "I have cultivated litchi on three bigha of land. There are China 3 and Bombay varieties of litchi trees in the garden. Enough buds have started coming on every tree. I started using sprays to protect against insect attacks. Hopefully, we will get a bumper yield of lychee this year than last year."

Md Nuruzzaman, deputy director of Dinajpur District Agriculture Department, said litchi is being cultivated on 5,400 hectares of land in the district this year. There are also litchi trees in various places including homesteads, roads and other places. Each tree has a lot of litchi buds. If the weather is favorable, there will be plenty of litchi yields on every tree.
