A 4-day long fair was inaugurated ahead of the festivals of small ethnic groups living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts such as Biju, Sangrai, Baisuk, Vishu, Bihu in Rangamati.
Around this festival, a colorful procession was taken out from Rangamati Government College grounds on last Wednesday afternoon. The procession circumambulates the main road of the city and ends at the premises of the Rangamati Minority Cultural Institute.
Later, Nahid Izahar Khan (MP), Minister of State for Cultural Affairs inaugurated the fair by cutting the ribbon and blowing balloons.
Chairman of Rangamati Zilla Parishad Angsuipru Chowdhury presided over the opening ceremony of the fair as special guests, Rangamati Member of Parliament and President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dipankar Talukdar, Member of Parliament for reserved women's seat Gyorvati Tanchangya, Region Commander Brigadier General Sohail Ahmed, Joint Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Rangamati Zilla Parishad Md Ashraful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mosharraf Hossain Khan, Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Tauhid and many others were present at that time.
In the four-day fair, various foods, traditional textiles and handicrafts of the hill people were set up in 30 stalls. The main festival is celebrated for three days on April 12, 13 and 14. Many organizations held various programs till April 15.
