In the intensity of the heat, everyone is gasping for breath. Patients of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital are suffering from this situation. Even if the ceiling fans are running in the wards, the heat is not reducing the pain. This includes the problem of load shedding. The patient and their relatives have to face another round of heat in the hospital despite coming for treatment.

Since the beginning of April, intense heat has been falling across the country. Most of the patients admitted to hospitals after Eid comes with heat stroke, fever, cold, diarrhea, and pneumonia. Children are the most affected by these diseases. After a long holiday, educational institutions will open from next week. If the heat wave continues like this, it can cause even bigger problems for children.

After visiting several wards of the new building and the old building of the hospital yesterday midnight, it was seen that the number of diarrhea patients and heat stroke patients increased due to intense heat. Overheating may worsen the condition of patients. Relatives of the patient are more worried.

Patients and their relatives said that it is very difficult to stay in the hospital in the summer. It is so hot inside the ward that it feels like the stove is burning. The body is burning with heat. The ceiling fan in the ward is just spinning. As the air from the fan cannot reach the patient on the floor and in bed, the only hope for patients is self-purchased table fans and hand fans.

Al-Amin, a student injured in a road accident, came from Jhenaidah to DMEC Hospital for treatment. He is seen receiving treatment on the floor next to the stairs of the old building. His mother and brother are fanning the air with a plastic fan in the intense heat.

Alamin's mother Dalia Begum said that even though it is hot on the street, it is about to boil inside the hospital. As if the fire was burning. Patients cannot be piled up inside the ward. So I took my son and settled in an open place for some peace. There is no ceiling fan above. I bought a small tabletop. There is no line arrangement for that either. I finally bought two plastic hand fans and am doing the airing.

A patient named Prabir (60) was admitted to ward number 200 on the second floor of the same building. His son Rahul said it was three times hotter inside the hospital than outside. Unable to bear the heat, the father repeatedly says to arrange an AC cabin anyway. If not, you want to go home. Meanwhile, his wife is seen holding a table fan in front of Prabir's head.

It was seen in ward number 207, one corner fan is damaged. A relative of a patient staying there said that it is hot everywhere inside and outside. My patient has been admitted to the hospital for three days. I have been seeing the fan off since I arrived. The fan is broken. These should be seen by the hospital authorities. My daughter has been having abdominal pain, fever vomiting, and loose stools for a few days.

The director of the hospital Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman said that people are suffering in the heat. Even the hospital patients are not spared from this heat. All ceiling fans have been kept on in all wards. In many places old fans have been removed and new fans have been installed.

He said that as the ceiling of the ward is very high, the fan air cannot reach the patient. Due to this, ceiling fans have been connected with iron pipes in several wards. In addition, instructions have been given to keep the electrical plugs on, so that patients can keep their small fans bought from outside running.
