10,000 people stuck in water

Due to heavy rains and water upstream from India, the waters of Feni's Muhuri and Kahua rivers are flowing 137 cm above the boundary line. In this, four places of flood control dam broke and 10 villages of Phulgazi and Parashuram upazilas of the district were flooded and about 10 thousand people were trapped in water. As a result of the sudden flood, the HSC and equivalent examinations of these two upazilas have been suspended. Traffic has been stopped on several roads in the flood-affected areas. A child drowned in the flood water. Several houses, shops, fossil lands, ponds and fish farms were submerged.

On receiving the News State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk MP and local Member of Parliament Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim along with Deputy Commissioner Musammat Shahina Akhtar went to visit the flood affected area at yesterday afternoon. According to local sources, at around 11:30 pm on Monday, three parts of the flood control dam of Muhuri river collapsed in Daulatpur area of ​​Fulgazi upazila of the district. North Daulatpur and Dakshin Daulatpur villages of that upazila were flooded. Apart from this, a part of the embankment adjacent to the house of Zahir Chairman of Dakshin Shaldhar area of ​​Parashuram Upazila was also seen breaking at the same time. Malipathar, Nilakshmi and Paglirkul areas of that upazila were flooded. Jasim Uddin, Chairman of Chithlia Union Parishad of Parshuram Upazila, said that the erosion started at Muhuri River Dam near the house of Zahir Chairman of South Shaldhar area around 11:30 pm.

Chairman of Fulgazi Sadar Union Parishad Salim said, the water of Muhuri river has risen in the upstream water and has risen more than two feet in Fulgazi Bazar. Erosion has occurred in three parts of the embankment in Daulatpur area. It is flooding several villages from Daulatpur to Jagatpur. Fulgazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tania Bhuiyan said, river water has flooded Fulgazi market and locality. Dry food is being distributed among the affected. Rashed Shahriar, executive engineer of Feni Water Development Board, said that the water of Muhuri river is flowing 137 cm above the boundary line. So far three places in Phulghazi and one in Parashuram have developed erosion. Water is flowing over different parts of the dam.
