17th annual senate meeting held at BUP

The 17th Annual Senate Meeting of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) was held today at the Bijoy Auditorium of BUP. BUP Vice Chancellor and Senate Chairman Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, MPhil, PhD presided over the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, BUP Vice Chancellor and Senate Chairman Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam thanked the outgoing members and welcomed the newly appointed members. 

BUP Treasurer Air Commodore Md Reza Emdad Khan, GUP, BUP, ndc, psc GD(P), put forward the revised 2024-2025 fiscal year budget amounting to Tk 134 Crore 8 lac and announced a Tk 134 Crore 97 lac budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026 that the Senate Members unanimously approved. 

Besides, the 17th Annual Report was presented in the Senate Meeting which was also unanimously approved by the Senate Members. BUP Registrar Brigadier General Md Rabbi Ahsan, ndc, psc conducted the meeting.  

During the meeting, BUP Vice Chancellor and Senate Chairman Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam said that although BUP is relatively new, its students, faculty members, and researchers have earned national and international recognition through their achievements in competitions, seminars, workshops, and research-driven activities. To achieve excellence in modern education, research, and innovation and to elevate the university to an international standard, BUP has formulated a well-defined “Academic Strategic Plan–2050”. Initiatives have been taken to modernize curricula, implement Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, enhance research, innovation, publications, and research-support capabilities. 

The Vice Chancellor informed the Senate that BUP is working to energize research, innovation, and consultancy activities through the integrated faculty and affiliated institutions under the BUP Research Centre (BRC). Embracing the slogan "Inspiring Innovation for Advancing Knowledge", the centre encourages high-quality research among scholars and is crucial in bridging academia, industry, and institutions. 

He also noted that BUP regularly publishes five journals each year to disseminate locally and internationally generated research knowledge, which has earned widespread recognition. 

The Senate Chairman further emphasized BUP’s unwavering commitment to nurturing students not only in academic competence but also as disciplined, ethical, and responsible citizens. To support this goal, ethical education has been incorporated into all program curricula. 

He explained that alongside high academic standards, BUP is taking necessary steps to attract international students, recognizing the importance of diverse cultural engagement. Additionally, to instill moral values, integrity, character, social responsibility, and patriotism in the new generation, BUP organizes seminars, symposiums, cultural events, and special programs highlighting Bangladesh’s traditions and national days.

Among the Senate Members, Secretaries from different ministries, high officials from the Bangladesh Armed Forces, and high officials of BUP were also present in the meeting.
