The American Astronautical Society (AAS) has organized the 20th annual design-build-launch CANSAT competition for students from all over the world. In this international competition, AAUB’s ‘Ababil’ team will participate in the final launch phase in Virginia, USA, from June 05 to June 09, 2025.
For this purpose, the team is expected to leave Dhaka on June 02, 2025.
AAUB’s participation in the CANSAT 2025 competition is a unique example of Bangladesh’s journey in space research. The journey of the project began in December 2024, and this is the first time that a group of dedicated students from Bangladesh is participating in the design-build-launch CANSAT competition with a small soda-can-sized satellite.
The Ababil team secured 6th place globally in the first phase of the competition with a score of 98.2% in the preliminary design review. Subsequently, it successfully completed the critical design review and environmental testing phases and is currently preparing for the final launch. With the completion of the major design and testing milestones, the Ababil team is now in the final stages of testing the full performance of CANSAT in a live state. It is worth noting that the success of the Ababil team lies in the combined leadership and guidance of the Vice Chancellor, Air Vice Marshal AKM Monirul Bahar, and the faculty members.
The Ababil team members said that this project is not just a competition - it is a groundbreaking step to establish Bangladesh as a front-runner in international competition in space technology and research. It is worth noting that Goldhill Alliance, Synax Automation Technology Limited, Square Informatics Limited, ADM Traders Limited, and ZSRM Companies have provided significant support for the necessary funds for the AAUB team`s participation in this international competition.
